This fall we are offering all four courses necessary to obtain the National Certified Gambling Counselor - Level I certification. If you are not interested in obtaining the certification, you may still attend any or all of the following seminars:

Wednesday, September 7, 2016 - COMPLETE
Day 1 – Intro to Problem Gambling
An intro to the history and scope of gambling and an in depth look at what problem gambling is and how it affects individuals of all backgrounds. We will touch on problem gambling and the family, affected populations and how problem gambling is diagnosed and what treatment resources are available. Instructor: Josh Ercole, Chief Operating Officer, Council on Compulsive Gambling of Pennsylvania

Thursday, September 8, 2016- COMPLETE
Day 2 – Family & the Law
A focus on how couples and family are affected by issues associated with problem gambling. Day 2 will include video and case study discussion in order to help attendees better understand the approach to working with those suffering from gambling disorder by placing them in situations where assessment can provide further insight. Instructor: Gregory A. Day 3 – Special Populations
While traditionally a ‘male’ problem, there has been an increase in evidence showing that individuals from a variety of backgrounds are suffering from gambling disorder. Day 3 will focus on adolescents, college students, women, and older adults. By comparing generational, cultural and socioeconomic differences, we will compare gambling disorder across gender, age and ethnicity, and discuss long term recover options. Instructor: Gregory A. Day 4 – Treatment Strategies
Day 4 will focus on treatment options available for the problem gambler. We will discuss how to implement a program and also how to best design program for the individual. We will use the information that we present over Days 1, 2 and 3 to determine what variables should be considered when creating a treatment plan and what challenges may be faced during the process. Day 4 will include case study and group discussion. Instructor: Gregory A. Krausz, MA, CACD, LPC

Check-in/Registration: 8 a.m. Trainings will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. each day. 

If you have attended our trainings before, you may be familiar with the parking lot across 3rd Street from the Northampton Community College (NCC) Fowler Southside Center. This parking lot is now under construction. Free parking is available on either side of the Fowler Center on the north side of 3rd Street, as well as on 2nd Street to the north of the building, as usual. On the morning of your training, please allow a few extra minutes to find parking.

Fee: None, and a continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Credits (7.5 per day): CAC, APA, and NCGC from IGCCB, NASW-PA and LVPCA. Payment for credits will be collected the day of the workshop; cash or check will be accepted. (Cost of 7.5 credits: LVPCA members, $30; LVPCA non-members $35; NASW members $15, non-members, $25) Lehigh Valley Psychological and Counseling Association is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. LVPCA maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
